All about Renesas RL78:  Industry's lowest class low power consumption

Posted by edmund on Jul 26, 2011 12:53:49 AM

Hi,

I just want to share with you on Renesas 16Bit RL78, the Industry's lowest class low power consumption. To make the story short, I will just share with you the facts about the MCU

http://sg.renesas.com/pr/mcu/rl78/index.html

Industry's lowest class low power consumption and high processing performance

Achieves the industry's lowest class low power consumption

  • At normal operation: 70 µA/MHz operating current
  • At clock operation: 0.7 µA (32.768 kHz, RTC + LVD)
  • STOP current: 1/10 (one-tenth) that of previous Renesas products (WDT + LVD)

New SNOOZE mode function enables even more energy saving

In SNOOZE mode, A/D conversion and data reception can be performed even when the CPU is stopped. By using SNOOZE mode, the built-in oscillator and peripheral functions can be operated with the CPU in STOP mode (clock is stopped).

A/D converter in SNOOZE mode

Enter SNOOZE mode periodically using an interval timer and perform A/D conversion and comparison of conversion results. Perfect for sensors and other monitoring applications. For example, if "comparison value more than 100" is selected, the operation is as follows.

  • A/D conversion is performed according to the time interval set in the interval timer. STOP and SNOOZE are reiterated (STOP <-> SNOOZE) until the conversion results exceed 100
  • When the conversion results are more than 100, the CPU is activated (SNOOZE -> MAIN RUN)
*A range can be specified for the comparison value.

Well, I shall post more of its features at a later time. Meanwhile, do take a look at what I have posted.
