New Video Optical Receiver Modules

The desire to send high-definition SDI video across longer distances has prompted the need for solutions capable of sending video across fiber optic networks. However, unlike mainstream data communication protocols, SDI video can contain pathological data patterns that result in serious performance degradation. Gennum’s newest video optical receivers enable video broadcast equipment manufacturers to offer superior optical link robustness on their end products such as cameras, routers and monitors.

GO2926 – Dual Channel Video Optical Receiver Module Key Features

  • Operates from 50Mbps to 3Gbps and can seamlessly support SMPTE 259M, SMPTE 344M, SMPTE 292M and SMPTE 424M data rates over fiber.
  • Best in class optical receive sensitivity of -23dBm.
  • Exceeds SMPTE 297-2006 specifications and robust performance with SDI pathological patterns.
  • Broadband operation: 1260 – 1620nm.
  • I2C for monitoring and control of receive optical power, module temperature and supply voltage.
  • In-rush current control to support hot pluggable requirements in the field.
  • Telecordia GR-468-CORE compliant.
  • Typical power consumption is 600mW at 3G data rates.

GO2916 – Single Channel Video Optical Receiver Module Key Features

  • Single channel version of GO2926.
  • Typical power consumption is 300mW at 3G data rates.

Video Optical Receiver Module Key Value Added Advantages

  • Substantial 5dB improvement in receiver sensitivity with 3Gbps pathological data.
  • Pin-compatible with first-generation GO2910 and GO2920 modules.
  • Small Form Pluggable (SFP) package saves board space requirements.
  • Pin-out designed so that one slot can be populated with a dual transmitter, dual receiver, single transmitter, single receiver, or a transceiver.
  • When used with a SMPTE compatible transmitter (GO2922) over single mode fiber, the maximum distance is 30km for SD, 21km for HD and 10km for 3G data rates.
