In order to reduce environmental pollution resulting in waste from EIPs (Electronic Information Products) the Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA) and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have announced plans to establish a national electronic information product control certification system in China.

Manufacturers, sellers and importers of EIPs will be able to voluntarily apply for a uniform certification of products. A RoHS logo (below) will be applied to approved products. The voluntary certification will be adopted in the China Compulsory Certification (CCC) phase of China RoHS while the CNCA and MIIT will work together to draft, finalise and issue the uniform product “catalog” including certification rules and conformity assessment procedures.

The content of this “catalog” is likely to be different to that of the “catalog” of China RoHS “phase two” products and restricted substances although the latter is still not officially published. The government will aim to provide financial and tax incentives to support certified enterprises and their products will take priority on governmental purchases.

The China RoHS “catalog” will focus on finished products but the voluntary certification can be implemented to the whole supply chain including materials and components.
