The kit consists of the DE2-115 board featuring the Altera Cyclone® IV device and an Industrial Communications Board (ICB-HSMC) supporting RS-485, RS-232RS-232, CAN, and additional I/O expansion. The INK gives industrial equipment designers greater flexibility in implementing real-time Ethernet communications with the availability of Industrial Ethernet IP cores.

Altera has expanded its Industrial Networking Partner Program (INPP) with an Industrial Networking Kit (INK) from Terasic aimed at reducing development time for industrial networking designers. By providing access to Altera's IP partners in one place and adding the capabilities of Terasic's INK, customers can generate IP evaluation packages with hardware made accessible through the partnership program, thereby reducing cost and time to market.

 

Altera claims INK could cut down developers time by up to one year. Designers can access the kit and IP partners from altera.com, with partners providing proven solutions and evaluation packages that work with INK.

 

INK is based on the Terasic DE2-115 FPGA board with dual 10/100/1000 Ethernet, 128-MB SDRAM, 8-MB flash memory, 4-MB SRAM, security EEPROM, HSMC connector, GPIOs, toggle switches, status LEDs, USB, audio, and video capabilities.

 

INK has a Cyclone IV E (EP4CE115F29) FPGA and supports most Industrial Ethernet and fieldbus networking standard allowing all IP vendors to support the latest generation of low-cost FPGAs.

 

INK finds applications in industrial automation and process control, typically, servo/drive/motion-control equipment, sensors, programmable-logic controllers, machine vision, and video surveillance equipment.

 

The DE2-115 board features allow users to implement simple circuits to complex multimedia projects with the following hardware is provided:

The DE2-115 board has software support for standard I/O interfaces and control panel facility in addition to the hardware features.

Software is also provided for supporting a number of demonstrations, illustrating the advanced capabilities of the DE2-115 board.

User of the DE2-115 board need to be familiar with the Quartus II software. Information can be had from the tutorials "Getting Started with Altera's DE2-115 Board (tut_initialDE2-115.pdf) and "Quartus II Introduction".
