From the 1st June 2011 under the REACH regulations the requirement for notification of SVHCs in articles comes into force. This process applies to any producer or importer of articles into the EU which contains an SVHC above the threshold of 0.1% by weight and if the quantity of that substance is over 1 tonne per year.
The notification requirement does not apply if you can exclude exposure of the substance to humans or the environment, or if the substance has already been registered for that use.
The substance concentration threshold of 0.1% (w/w) currently applies to the article as produced, imported or supplied rather than to the homogeneous materials or parts of an article.
Once new substances are added to the candidate list notification will be required within 6 months of the date of that substance being placed on the Candidate List
