Gennum’s latest industry leading GS344x adaptive SD/HD/3G cable equalizer family is a pin for pin direct replacement for Gennum’s previously released GS2994, GS2984, GS2974ACNE3 and GS2974B variants, offering far better performance with respect to the jitter and power consumption across longer co-ax cables. The time is now right to upgrade and move up to experience the system benefits of the GS34x family of adaptive cable equalizers.

Gennum’s Latest SD/HD/3G-SDI Equalizer – GS344x Benefits
- DC coupling on the high speed serial outputs to seamlessly interface with other devices (eg., FPGAs) operating from power supplies as low as 1.2V
- Voltage programmable carrier detect threshold to mute the serial output when a specified connected cable length is exceeded – ideal to distinguish between low amplitude SDI signals and noise at the input
- Bypass control pin means no equalization or DC restoration will take place and the input signal goes straight through to the output thus offering a reduction in overall power consumption
- Industry’s lowest output jitter adaptive cable driver and all guaranteed over production testing
- Longest cable reach at 3G data rates of 200m @ 0.5UI max output jitter
- 0-6dB gain boost pin presents the incoming signal with a flat, wideband gain of 6dB. An ideal feature for accommodating BNC connector compensation
- GS3440 and GS3442 are pin compatible with Gennum 16 QFN equalizers and can be used as drop in replacements in many applications
- GS3440 power consumption is typically 167mW using a single 3.3V power supply for the analog core and a 1.2V power supply for the output driver
- GS3442 high density equalizer, with its reduced crosstalk sensitivity is ideally suited for high density multi-lane environments
- GS3442 is recommended for use with the latest generation of BNC alternatives including HD-BNC, DIN 1.0/2.3 and Mini BNC connectors
GS344xTarget Applications
Like any transmission medium, cables impose transmission losses on the signals they carry, manifested as signal dispersion and loss of high-frequency content. Unless something is done to compensate for these losses, they can render the cables useless for transmitting high resolution & high speed signals over reasonable distances. Therefore, to compensate for cable losses, an equalizer can be utilized at the receiving end of the cable.
