Back in November 2010, ECHA was scheduled to publish its list of REACH regulation registrations but many of the expected substances were either listed under alternative names or absent altogether. Now ECHA has spoken up about the missing substances.

Of the 5,000 substances registered only around 3,300 submissions were received. ECHA has now addressed concerns that the missing substances will be removed from the market.

395 substances were registered under alternative names, 274 were exempt from the scope of the REACH regulations and another 485 were sold or imported in volumes under the levels required for the 2010 registrations and will be registered at a later date.

However, this still leaves 551 substances missing and no further explanation has been given from ECHA about them.

In response to the issues experienced last year, ECHA has refined its pre-registration list removing all invalid applications and blocked applicants. The resulting list will be used by chemical firms who must register lower volume substances by the December 2013 deadline.
