Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) have published a notice which will revise the country’s Standard for Classification and Labeling of Chemical Substances and the requirements of material safety datasheets. The notice aims to provide clearer guidance on the content of material safety datasheets and to also bring the standard into line with the UN Globally Harmonized System (GHS).
The notice aims to add an information reporting obligation to section one of the material safety datasheet. This would require companies exporting chemicals into Korea to provide the contact details of a Korean-based business. A new provision also states that the recipient of a material safety datasheet provided by fax, email, compact disc or USB flash drive is required to issue a confirmation of receipt to the supplier.
