This is for all your electrical-mechanical engineers out there. The Blue Sky Solar Racing team recently finished characterizing our brand new electrical motor that will go into our new car. This motor is slightly different from your normal brushless dc motors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brushless_DC_electric_motor), it has a mechanism to change the air gap between the rotor and the stator. Now, for those of you who are familiar with brushless dc motors, you'll know that the air gap changes the amount of magnetic flux between the rotor and the stator. This allows the motor to operate with different characteristics.
Alright, that's enough for today's lesson. So the team tested the motor operating at different air gap settings, and the results are as follows. Look at the pretty graphs!
