HDcctv will proliferate

Posted by ahutton Sep 14, 2010
In a recent report IMS Research estimated that by 2014 more than 50% of all network cameras shipped will be HD or of megapixel resolution. At the same time, ABI Research forecasts the total video surveillance market to approach $17 billion in 2011, including not only cameras and network video recorders but also cabling, other infrastructure, professional services, and software. Law enforcement agencies and privacy advocates all over the world have long debated over the usefulness or merits of pervasive CCTV coverage versus their cost and the more disturbing coercive effect their presence has on free speech, yet for “security” solution providers the debate lays elsewhere: internet protocol (IP) cameras versus analogue closed circuit TV (CCTV) video surveillance

HD CCTV Security & Surveillance

Posted by ahutton Feb 12, 2010

In the analog/HD CCTV world, edge based hacking attacks on the network are impossible since the hacker needs to gain direct access to the DVR. IP networked cameras, on the other hand, are highly vulnerable to edge based hacking since WiFi systems can be overcome using jammers and are also liable to denial of service (DoS) attacks by UDP packet flooding. Does this then merit the proven viability of using HD cameras over co-axial cables for security and surveillance applications?

Market research group IMS Research give HDcctv a 1% share of CCTV camera sales in 2011. In 2009, 42 million CCTV cameras were shipped.
