Microsoft’s InstaLoad Lets You Install Batteries Either End Up

InstaLoad_1a.jpg

Microsoft Corp. recently announced a new technology aimed at improving the battery installation process. Called InstaLoad, it allows users to install a battery without regard to positive and negative polarity.

As the illustration above suggests InstaLoad is mechanical battery contact design. The technology is said to be compatible with off-the-shelf CR123, AA, AAA, C or D size or similar barrel-type battery form factors (disposable or rechargeable).

Microsoft plans on offering royalty-free commercial licenses for the patented technology, as part of its Microsoft Hardware Intellectual Property Licensing program.

It’s brilliantly simple. So why didn’t someone else (you, me?) think of this first?
