Load Google Translate Just had a thought about the cut and paste.
You have to select the items you want to copy, click on the scissors tool, and then right-click to get the context menu. Select "Cut: group". Then it'll be in your paste buffer.
Or should be ![]()
Hi Richard!
You're a star!! It was the right click and "cut group" I wasn't doing... I've read so many tutorials and web forums and nobody mentions about doing this unless I've missed it?
So again many thanks for you swift reply and help. I was starting to pull my hair out but now I'm a very happy chappy!
Very best regards,
Paul... ![]()
Well, I don't mind being confused with Richard ![]()
Glad you got it working - I'd forgotten about the "Cut: group" option, until I had a quick go. It's a bit second nature to me, so easy to skip! Basically, anything you need to do to a group, you need to right-click (to me, the most common is move group, and then copy group).
Sorry Jason ![]()
I think its because kept seeing Richard's name on the subject line...
I knew it would be something I was missing, I certainly wont forget now!
Cheers...

Hi,
After the Freemium expires, you may continue using the Freeware version of EAGLE as evaluation or non-profit reasons. Freeware version will allow to design schematics with only 1 sheet, and the board editor will only allow designs with 2 signal layers.
If you need greater capabilties, you can view prices and ordering process with this link:

You can also order directly from NEWARK or element14

Would like to upgrade from 5.8 to 5.10, without going trough all the password and registration problems for the 4e time.
I tried the changed.zip, no result.
thank you, jens hacquebord
Hi Jens,
I hope you are doing well.
I'm afraid that if you have a valid license of EAGLE, the ONLY way to update from 5.8 to 5.10 is to use your original key file and installation code. If you always keep them handy that way upgrading will only take a few minutes. If you're using the eagle.key file you found on your hard drive then EAGLE won't accept it, make sure you use your original key file.

Hi.
I'm a newbie in EAGLE. Where can I add details like Part number, Manufacturer, etc on the symbol such that it is reflected also in the partlist? How can I customized the partlist? Please send me tutorial if there is any.
Thank you so much.
Laila
Hi Laila,
I hope you are doing well.
In EAGLE, we use attributes to add this functionality. I'm going to give you the short version, but everything you need to know about attributes is in the EAGLE manual chapter 8 section 5. The EAGLE manual comes in PDF format with your installation of EAGLE it will be in EAGLE's home folder on your hard drive. If you're a Windows user then the easiest way is from the Desktop go Start->All Programs->EAGLE x.x-> Manual.pdf.
Now to the good part. Basically you first structure your attributes in the component library, then you can adjust them in your Schematic or Layout.
In the library, select the device you want to assign attributes to. Once selected you'll see that your window has been split into three sections, the left side has the schematic symbol, the top right has the currently selected package and below that you have a list of all the packages assigned to this device.
To start, single-click a package then look on the left toolbar, you'll see an icon that has the letters AT in it, click it. You will now see a dialog with all of the technologies available. The commands will be pretty self-explanatory add, change, etc. When you click add, a small dialog will appear, in this dialog you will name your attribute and initialize it if you want to. You will also be able to to determine if the attribute is going to be a constant or a variable, if you make the value a constant then you won't be able to edit it in either the schematic or the layout editor.
That's pretty much the jist of it, if you're not sure work through chapter 8 you will learn everything you need to know about Part creation, Library management and attributes.
There are a few ULPs which can help you to manage your attributes and bill of materials. The first ULP will simplify creating attributes, the other two ULPs create BOM(Bill of Materials)s using attributes.
attrib-add.ulp
bom with attributes.zip
bom-ex104.zip
You can download them from cadsoftusa.com
As a bonus I'm including a text file with links to various EAGLE tutorials on the net, some are youtube videos and the others are from Sparkfun. Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Jorge Garcia
Just take away the .zip extension and it will open as a text file.

Richard,
I use polygons a lot for making ground and power planes (often on same layer). I would like to make cutout or "keepout" sections to a polygon. I find I can do this using the tRestrict or bRestrict layers for polygons on top or bottom. How can I do it for internal layers?
jh
Hi Jim,
In the case of the internal layers, the most common solution is to draw a closed rectangle using the wire command. It would look something like this:
_______
| |
| |
-------------
When the polygon fills it won't be able to reach the inside of the rectangle essentially restricting the polygon fills. Make sure you have orphans turned off on the polygon otherwise EAGLE may fill it in.
Another good suggestion if you planning to autoroute is to draw a rectangle on the vrestrict layer that way the autorouter won't be able to use vias to get into the rectangle.

Thanks Jorge! It works keeping the polygon out, but now I have a rectangle of wire, which ends up as a loop of unconnected copper. Is there some way to connect this copper to the polygon? Or can I use a zero width wire definition?
