Wireless communication (wi-fi, bluetooth, zigbee, etc...) has been steadily changing the landscape. Compaired with 10 years ago, the functionality has really blossomed with wireless networking gaining speed, cellphones, wireless headsets, and more recently wireless printers just to name a few.
In the medical field, not only do we have things like MRI and ultrasonic imaging, we also have the ability to network world-wide using satellites, phone lines or the internet, such that tricky, life-saving work can be carried out in remote areas, saving the (usually detrimental) long trip to a major hospital - if there even is one. A team of doctors on the other side of the world can watch the operation and advise the local doctors as they go.
Beyond that, if my doctor is unsure of a condition, he/she can log into the 'medical web' and obtain free, accurate and timely advice from others experienced in that condition. Simply put, thousands of people's lives have already been saved or improved by this 'networkability'.
