If I were to be the winner, I would replace my wife's old, dying computer.  Turn her workstation power consumption from 300W+ to less than 50W.  Saving the environment on shmuck at a time!

    Re: Freescale and Bluetechnix competition

In times of great peril and uncertainty a hero must arise. Through years of arduous mental and physical conditioning I have honed my body to a razor's edge, and I am prepared to combat crime and injustice wherever it may appear.

I have spent months developing a stealthy, nimble flying machine, within which I will patrol the skies over my fair hometown, defending her citizens against the the predators who lurk in her shadows. Only one thing is missing to make my patrolcraft skyworthy: a Bluetechnix SBC-iMX51 board to drive the glass cockpit.

The audio input will allow me to triangulate upon the innocents as they cry for help. The camera input will provide multi-spectrum image capabilities, allowing me to search the shadows for ne'er-do-wells lying in ambush. The GPU support will give me real time rendering of three dimensional terrain and building information culled from Google Earth and USGS survey data, all of which can be compressed down to fit in the ample 2GB on-board flash memory. The SD card slot will allow me to take my trusty artificially intelligent operational sidekick (AIOS) with me from my headquarters into the patrol craft, and the iMX.51 processor will allow her to respond to my inquiries with lightning speed.

Either that, or maybe some kind of video game. I don't know yet.

Since it has low power consumption, lots of I/O and is fairly powerful, I would see if I could make an interesting environmental monitor. Since it should be well suited to being remotely situated, connected to various sensors and whilst capable of locally processing data and/or serving content.

Rather than things such as temperature and wind speed etc, I'd be more concerned with measurements such as the earth's magnetic field and radiation levels. The latter is particularly topical for obvious reasons, and the former since it's been predicted that we are entering a period of increased geomagnetic activity. So, ideally I'd like to try and construct a proton precession magnetometer, although this may turn out to be quite a challenge. However, measuring background radiation would be simpler and there are perhaps simpler instruments for measuring the earth's magnetic field to a lower resolution.

    Hi all

the description of my proposed project for SBC-iMX51 board

SchoolBook is an embedded tablet device designed for replacing books taken to schools. It will have an user interface that will give a look and feel of real books. SchoolBook will be running on MeeGo
    Main Features:

    • Form Factor of a conventional notebook
    • Touch pen interface(wacom penabled or similar technology) for taking notes, drawing and navigating
    • Notes to be stores in users' handwriting, for getting a personal touch
    • Tags to indicate topic of each note
      • Sorting and searching notes based on tags
    • Networking with other SchoolBooks through WiFi/bluetooth
      • Sharing of notes with other SchoolBooks
    • Notes stored in SchoolBook can be accessed from PC through USB Device interface
    • Projector interface for conducting presentations
    • Support of popular document and image formats – PDF, word, jpeg, etc
    • Support of Course Management Systems like moodle, for teachers to maintain their notes & conducting examinations/class tests, etc
    • Record and play back of class room sessions

    with regards & prayers

    Re: Freescale and Bluetechnix competition

Its still May 3rd, I swears it! Just a little slow on picking a plan!

I'd implement the base station for my ongoing wireless sensor network project. Rather than limiting the controls to a few manual switches, I would make the controls software based (most likely by command line initially). The base station comments to the sensor nodes via a XBee module and has local sensing capabilities over I2C and the ADC. The ethernet capabilities could then be used along with a basic server to publish and grab sensor data to a service such as Pachube. Implementing a basic web server would also allow the device to operate without an attached LCD if needed. The remaining "power" of the board would allow the user to manage their other services through the web browser or simply use it as a media device when not monitoring the sensor network (Multitasking anyone?)

Future developments could include integrating a touchscreen for greater easy of use, and a battery supply to allow on the move use (USB Wifi adapter if you need it, or something else).

Perhaps not the best written out idea, but its a start!

    Re: Freescale and Bluetechnix competition

If anyone uses this board for data acquisition, specifically with National Instruments Labview or USB devices, I'd like to know the results.  I have an application that is currently using a Zotac Ion mini-ITX motherboard, but it's still rather large and heavy for what I want to do.  Power use would be interesting to know also.
