Farnell adds Tyco Electronics’ SFP+ interconnect range to address high speed data applications

Farnell has extended the range of Tyco Electronics products  it stocks to include the company’s Small Form Pluggable (SPF+) range of  connectors and cages. Targeted at higher speed data applications of up to  10Gb/s, the SFP+ range is ideal for use in short reach equipment such as data  storage, servers, networking , routers and hubs.

Farnell has enjoyed a  successful relationship with Tyco Electronics for over 20 years and now stocks  over 11,500 of the leading electronics components provider’s products. Through  an array of initiatives such as Live Chat, website accessible data sheets and  now the element14 online engineering community, Farnell is able  to support its electronics design engineering customers with quality information  plus ideas to help bring their new designs to market as quickly and efficiently  as possible.

Tyco Electronics' SFP+  product family meets the performance requirements of the small form factor (SFF)  specification SFF-8431 and supports 8G fibre channel and 10G Ethernet  applications. All products in the range also support copper cables to provide a  cost-effective solution in short reach equipment. An EMI skirt is applied to the  connector backshell to support compliance with the SFF-8432 specification.  Active and passive equalisation is offered with a simple pull-to-release  mechanism. An overview of the SFP+ range, applications and features can be found  at the Tyco Electronics community on element14 at http://www.element-14.com/community/docs/DOC-14123.

“Adding leading technology  products from a best-in-class supplier to our portfolio is a clear indication of  how Farnell can help its customers develop and introduce new designs that give  them competitive edge.” said Mike Buffam, Director of Supplier & Product  Management, Farnell. He continued: “Through our ability to provide strong  technical support and resources such as element14 we can make the job of the  designer easier and even shorten the development  cycle.”

Michael Finch, Tyco  Electronics Key Account Manager EMEA, commented: “Tyco Electronics is a global  leader in the development of SFP+ interconnects. Farnell offers SFP+ products to  thousands of potential and existing customers, design engineers and students.  This collaboration with Farnell greatly enhances the awareness of Tyco  Electronics' SFP+ products in the market place.”
