Adafruit iron-on "skill badges" / patches and partners
Adafruit offers fun and exciting "badges" of achievement for electronics, science and engineering. Please visit our badge section to purchase badges or contact us for more information on how educators can participate. We believe everyone should be able to be rewarded for learning a useful skill, a badge is just one of the many ways to show and share. From the "I CAN USE A LASER CUTTER" or "I CAN SOLDER" to "I LEARNED MICRO-CONTROLLERS" Adafruit has designed open-source badges to reward students, beginners and individuals who are learning with Adafruit products.
Many are already available for order:

One of the niftier ones is the Reverse Engineering badge:
This is the first lenticular (two-stage image) skill badge that we know of! It says reverse engineer forwards and backwards depending on the angle you view it at!
Cheers,
Drew
laff... maybe there should be a meme badge - it would have to have some sort of cat i suppose
Who needs badges when you can show off your solder scars, jagged scars from cut metal or my favorite, a laser burn across the forehead.
I guess if you want to attain respect from the masses who do not understand engineering, then badges make sense, but nowing that I can build just about anything I can think off is all the recognitioin I need. Besides, the scars take a very long time to go away. ![]()
Plus I always have my "Crow" coin to verify that I have attained exclusive status in the realm of the Dark Side.

why show off badges/scars when you can show off a neat project you built your self!
An update: Adafruit has now launched an online "achievement" badge system which supports profiles which display which badges (aka skills) a person has accumulated:

It seems to be targeted primarily at the youth demographic as a way to encourage them to learn. Part of the vision of Phil Torrone (Adafruit/Make) is to help update the Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts so that newer skills are promoted as well.
Of course, I think adults can enjoy these well-made badges and stickers, too. I ordered a few earlier this week, and they just arrived:
The round black disc is the solar badge - an actual 5V panel. I'm curious to take some measurements of its output later.
Cheers,
Drew
Hi Drew , I just got to say I was spliting my sides with laughter at the video puns on badges ,thanks .
On a more serious note , any thing that recognises the merits of achievement are allways wellcome ,especialy to youngsters..
After all they might be paying your wages one day !.
