HI! I'm planning to build an LED RGB panel that's about 15x20 cm (6x8") and powered by a 12 V source. The panel will not be controlled by a source but by a programmed memory chip or controller. The questions are where can I get some schematics, what's the difference between a controller and a memory and how can I get it programmed.
A while back, I bought some flexible light guide from Maplins. It's pretty much just 1mm monofilament in a black plastic coating. I've not been able to source any more since. Do you do this, or know of anywhere that does? Price on this was about £2 / $3 a metre.
Hi Frost,
There are few sources. What quantities are you looking for? Email me at odiaz@vcclite.com.

Hi,
Thank you for your inquiry. We do not work with the circuits or software end of LED applications. There is a lot of literature which can help you in designing basic circuits, try the "Electronic Cookbook".
Hi Orlando, I have a board in hand that was populated with a surface mount LED that radiates beautifully in all directions. It is not the part that is intended in the BOM, though, and no one knows the part number. The reason I want to track it down is that the pads are placed poorly for the direction we want the light to be launched now...and no one wants to re-lay out the board for a standard side launch ("90 degree") LED. Footprint is 1208 i.e. a 3 x 2 mm LED. The mystery LED would be perfect Please forgive the ascii art:
[] [] ----> (pads and required light direction)
We don't need a ton of light, just some coming off parallel to the plane of the PCB and in the line between the pads, not perpendicular to the line between the pads.
Do you know any parts that match this description? Or the right search term (whidh is not "isotropic LED"?
Thank you in advance,
Andrew
Hi Andrew,
For your mystery LED, you should try looking at the most popular manufacturers in the 1208 size, such as Dialight or Lite-On.
