Thank you for the presentation
Hi Gene,
Very nice presentation. Are the handouts of the presentation available?
We will have the .ppt available shortly and the video on demand as of Thursday. Please check back for update.
You are welcome. I hope you enjoyed it and become inspired to creae clutter.
Presentation document:
There is a lot of talk about increasing wireless connectivity of devices in all human activity areas and, from the confort, esthetics, wire/copper reduction point of view, I am for it. What is though your opinion about increasing radiation that comes into our daily life along with these present and future wireless devices?
Radiation does not need to be increased. There are a couple of ideas that will help reduce the amount of radiation:
- Transmit information rather than data. We tend to want to send data when all we need to do is send information. For example, if a surveillance camera at my house sees me, it doesn’t need to send my picture to the central system. It only needs to send a short piece of information “Gene walked through my area”. The solution is to use analytics to reduce the massive data to minimal information. A good question to ask is “is it better to compress a bit or transmit a bit?”.
- Shorter transmission distances. One issue I see in the concept of the cloud is that it is always portrayed as singular when it will be thousands of clouds. The concept of thousands of clouds gives us the opportunity of very short distances of transmission taking less power and creating less radiation. It could also allow us to chose communications links that are near us to be less of a problem.
I hope this gives you a start on ways we can resolved the issue without causing more problems than we solve.
