Load Google Translate I'm starting to work with a guy who's building libraries for me; I just
tried opening one of his libraries for the first time, and I got the
message "Invalid data in file ".
I looked at his library file, which is tagged as being created by Eagle
version 6.1. I'm using 5.11, and don't really want to change. Should
this be working?
I'm also on a Linux machine, and he's on a Windows machine -- could this
be the problem?

Libraries are not compatible.
I'm beginning to sound like a stuck record but keep away from v6 for now.
Far to many issues to entertain using it.

But this isn't an issue with a "bug" so when the issues you are referring
to this issue will still be there. EAGLE V6 will store any file it saves
in V6 format. EAGLE V5 cannot read this. The confusion is that CadSoft
didn't change the file extension.
What should have been done is the new extension becomes .schx, .pcbx, and
lbrx for instance to indicate the XML format. Then files wouldn't be
overwritten which is part of the problem.
Being able to "save as" V5 format would be very helpful for design houses
like us where we could use one tool and save out different format. Until
that is available you'll have to ensure that the library is provided in V5
format if you intend to use it in a V5 design.
Cheers,
James.

Man, I just can't say how happy it makes me to hear that. At least --
not without using words my mother told me not to use.

You still could try to export the v6 libs and import them into new v5
libs. Anyway some errors will be reported, but perhaps not all the work
is lost ![]()

I just tried opening a 5.11 library with 6.1. I got an error message (and
the library didn't open):
EAGLE update report
Date: 9.2.2012 8:03:19
File: C:/Program Files/EAGLE-6.1.0/lbr/omat.lbr
An error occurred while parsing the intermediate XML file.
The XML file has been loaded into a text editor window as
C:/Program Files/EAGLE-6.1.0/lbr/omat.rpt.lbr
Warning(s):
line 10717: invalid value '' for attribute 'name' in tag
This is my own part library and there is no way I'd do the parts all over
again in 6.1. Is this error fixable? Thanks!

Well, editing the XML file solved the problem. There was more parts with
gate="". I guess 6.1 can't handle these kind of parts. At least the library
opened now...
