RS232 to USB Converter IC

Can any one suggest me a IC that converts RS232 (Microcontroller) to USB (PC) with minimum pin count?

you might like to try FDTI P/N:FT232RL ? Or you can try its evaluation kit

I only managed to find this USB-RS232-PCBA from FTDI

Also, have a look at Silicon Labs CP2102 chip, this is a USB to UART, but your can easly add a MAX232 MAX232 to it to get RS232 levels.

Hi,

If you don't want to have the usual problem of all USB <===> UART chips which request a driver installation for the PC (due to CDC class use), there is a chip which is doing the job WITHOUT ANY DRIVER . It is using the HID class : http://www.hexwax.com/home.aspx

best solution for this circuit FT 2232 D . You can download this ic application note and make same circuit its run ver nice. İ can try 2 weeks ago.

Hi,

If you look for a straight USB <===> USART conversion chip, you may also consider the MCP2200 which is dedicated to this.
It has an extremely small package option ( QFN 20 )
There is also an evaluation board for it

I prefer the PIC18F14K50 chip from Micricrochip (one needs a programmer device to load the firmware into it). It works at either 5 V or 3.3 V. If one doesn't want to bother with the firmware, then the new MCP2200 chip can be used as well which is pin compatible with the PIC18F14K50-I/MQ PIC18F14K50-I/MQ.
