This week the U.S. FCC launched a Beta version of its Consumer Broadband Test “to give consumers additional information about the quality of their broadband connections and to create awareness about the importance of broadband quality in accessing content and services over the Internet,” according to the agency.
The test can be found at:http://broadband.gov/qualitytest/about
Click on “I want to test my connection quality” and follow the provided instructions.
Taking the test requires you to list the address you are accessing the Web from (a U.S. address format--state, zip code--is requested) also whether you are using the Web at home or at a business.
FCC’s Consumer Broadband Test measures the connection's download and upload speeds as well as its latency and jitter.
My results (using a cable modem):
6.9Mbps download, 1.5Mbps upload, 15ms latency, 1ms jitter.
Take the test and post your results (and type of connection) so we can get a rough look at typical access speeds.
