Which sensor to choose?

Hey!

I am working with an bachelor thessis, where we are building testequipment where we will use sensors.
we need a "flash" sensor that will detect a minor flash from explosives.
Range would be up to 100 meters. I have tried ir-transistor, photodiodes, pir-sensors etc. The equipment is supposed to work in daylight,
but we have problems with ambient light, which innvolves sunlight.This is the reason why I can't get it to work.
The assignment says that I have to use some sort of lightsensor technology.
I am therefore wondering if you could help us with some advice?
