Load Google Translate I recently heard about this product from a colleague here at element14 and curious to hear if any of you have either? If you haven't perhaps your kids have?
A description from the company describes it as:
"The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and a keyboard. It’s a capable little PC which can be used for many of the things that your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games. It also plays high-definition video. We want to see it being used by kids all over the world to learn programming."
I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the product as it sounds like a game changer in the computer world.
Here's their Twitter account and website if you'd like to check out more about it:

Thanks for your thoughts and comments as always!

Yeah, I know someone whose been working with them. The product looks amazing - and at this price point, I'll be ordering one as soon as they come on sale.
Been keeping track of the project for a while now. Would love to get my hands on one. It is a decent spec with good capabilities for what it is.
Given the price it may well be a game changer for the market, my only worry is that once it reaches the main market, companies will take to adding on huge license fees for custom software and effectively spoil it. Perhaps not likely to happen, but someone will try it.
From the whole project, what disappoints me most is the manufacturing side. It is a huge disappointment that they haven't been able to make it in Britain due to the costs. Would have loved to see a Made In Britain label on it. Regardless of this let down, good luck to them, mostly for keeping up with the initial demand!
yeah ive seen this to i will buy it when i get the chance
I have been watching the progress for several months now. December was unlikely, January was mentioned, but hopefully February it will be for sale. Wish, I could have purchased one of the Ebay ones, but way out of my budget.
Thanks for the heads up, I will join the queue for the release of this very useful, and surprisingly inexpensive product. I have never heard of it before, a reminder to spread my net further!
That is really cool! Imagine the possibilities...
Thanks for letting us know about it ![]()
The web link just goes to a blank page ?
they currently have problem with web hosting - https://twitter.com/#!/Raspberry_Pi/status/164537523098484736
Ah - thought maybe that safe IP b*llsh*t went through and some media giant shut them down for copywriter infringement. ![]()
Yes, this has been the subject of much discussion on the Pic List. Looking forward to seeing it at this price point.
Thanks for providing that new link
I`v been following them for the best part of a year now, as well as Maximite and recently Duinomite, I think the aim is totally admirable, todays ICT (don`t ask me what it means) computer education not Just for my daughter that`s doing it also, but right across the board, truly sux it!
their goal is to bring coding Back into the schools with cheap easy to program interactive Physical Computing devices.
todays kids have no idea what parity, mantisa, MSB, LSB, accumulator etc... is!
but could probably fly around windows app without a problem, not Once was any thought given to the Next Generation of coders ![]()
These guys on the other hand!.... ![]()
I am not a big Unix clone fan, but I absolutely like the idea of getting these devices into the hands of the next generation. If they offer the buy one give one, I just might participate. I am trying to get local kids involved with computing, but most just want to play games. We need to get them off fantasy and into the realities and fun of making real products.
Good Post,
DAB
The Gertboard add-on should make it easy to tap into the Pi's affordable power for DIY projects:
Can't wait to get my hands on one!
