Raspberry Pi, in collaboration with element14.com, the world’s largest electronic design community, today announced the winners of its “Pi Chef” Design Challenge. As one of five challenges that the element14 community runs each year, and the largest, 18 community members were tasked with using the Raspberry Pi development board as the main ingredient to advance the world of food through kitchen safety, food sustainability, or the creation of new preparation methods.

“At Premier Farnell, we’re proud to offer the broadest range of single board computers and development kits for makers and, through the elemement14 community, foster the creative and supportive environment they need to bring their projects to life,” said Dianne Kibbey, Global Head of Community and Social Media for the element14 community. “The Pi Chef Design Challenge was a fun and creative way to showcase the innovation of our community members, as well as the Raspberry Pi board’s flexibility to work with different kinds of products.”

The element14 community team judges selected Grand Prize, Runner Up, and 3rd Prize winners of the Pi Chef Design Challenge:

  • Grand Prize – James O’Gorman, USA – The Smart Range Hood is a custom built 40-inch range hood with extractor fan, video, heat sensors, air quality sensor and app using NodeRed, MQTT and Open Hab. The Premier Farnell group has sold more than 10 million Raspberry Pi since it was first launched. Premier Farnell designs and manufactures Raspberry Pi accessories that help makers get the most out of this easy-to-use board, while the element14 community further supports the ecosystem by providing users with ideas and inspiration for getting the most of the technology.
