element14 launch Raspberry Pi based Design Competition for engineers and makers in China who are creative and dare to innovate

Innovative ideas and practical solutions are welcome! - closing date for initial ideas 27 October 2017

Pi 3 with box

element14, the Development Distributor, has launched element14 Cup Raspberry Pi Creative Design Competition- in China looking for innovative or practical applications of the Raspberry Pi. Contestants have full creative freedom allowing them to design devices that meet any need – from home automation to industrial application and beyond. The only criteria that must be met is the inclusion of a Raspberry Pi 3 model B in the design.

The Raspberry Pi 3B is the latest offering from the Raspberry Pi Foundation. The new generation board is faster and more powerful than ever before and comes with built-in Wireless and Bluetooth connectivity. The Raspberry Pi 3 is built on a new QUAD Core Broadcom BCM2837 64bit ARMv8 processor (running an ARMv7 operating system) at 1.20GHz, a significant increase from 900MHz on the Raspberry Pi 2. It has improved power management and an upgraded switched power source up to 2.5 Amps to support more powerful external USB devices. With support for Bluetooth Low Energy and Wireless LAN, the Raspberry Pi 3 can support new and exciting application areas ‘out of the box’, such as IoT connectivity, streaming to Bluetooth headphones or speakers, Wi-Fi gateways and home cloud storage.

Contestants may also consider one of a range of add-on devices available from element14 that can be used with the Raspberry Pi 3 to speed up design or broaden the application of the device.

  • The Raspberry Pi SenseHAT attaches to the top of a Raspberry Pi through a 40-pin universal input and output, which has multiple IC-based sensors that can be used for many different types of experiments, applications and games. The SenseHAT includes a Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Magnetometer , Barometer, Temperature sensor, Relative humidity sensor, 8x8 RGB LED matrix display and 5-way joystick.

  • The Raspberry Pi camera offers 8MP resolution and features an image sensor that enables the board to capture 3280 x 2464 pixel static images. The camera supports 1080p30, 720p60 and 640x480p90 video, and links to the Raspberry Pi board through a dedicated CSi interface. The NoIR camera v2 has a No InfraRed (NoIR) filter on the lens which makes it the perfect option for infrared photography and taking pictures in lowlight environments.

element14 offers the full range of accessories for the Raspberry Pi, including exclusive boards and add-on modules to enable new and innovative projects. For more information visit www.element14.com/raspberrypi
