element14, an Avnet Community, has launched the Sensor Fusion competition as part of its ongoing Summer of Sensors program, a multi-supplier event where members of the element14 Community have the opportunity to explore, learn and test sensor technology. Participants will receive a free hardware evaluation kit by AMD-Xilinx to focus on experimenting with sensor fusion.

Participants have eight weeks to test, experiment or build with the SP701 Evaluation Kit, equipped with the best-in-class performance-per-watt Spartan-7 FPGA, which is built for designs requiring sensor fusion such as industrial networking, embedded vision, and automotive applications.

“Sensors allow us to observe details to a degree that our human senses cannot. When multiple sensors are integrated, known as ‘sensor fusion,’ we see a more informed and accurate picture of the world around us,” said Dianne Kibbey, Global Head of Community and Social Media for the element14 Community. “We are excited to see what the talented participants in our sensor fusion competition are able to create.”

Two sensor modules from Digilent have also been featured in the kit. The entire kit includes:

  • Evaluation Board EK-S7-SP701-G
  • Power Cords
  • Adapters, Ethernet & Micro USB Cables
  • Digilent Pcam 5C Imaging Module
  • Digilent Pmod NAV 9-axis IMU plus barometer

To enter the competition, element14 members should apply to the program in order to obtain one of the free AMD-Xilinx Spartan-7 SP701 FPGA Evaluation Kits. If chosen, applicants will be shipped a kit free of charge. To be eligible for the grand prizes, participants must blog at least twice. At the end of the competition, judges will determine the best and award the prizes. The first-place winner will receive an iPad Mini valued at $499 and an Apple Watch Series 7 valued at $400. The runner-up will receive an Apple Watch Series 7 valued at $400.

Enrollment for the Sensor Future Competition begins August 31, 2022, through September 30, 2022. Applications are then selected on October 6, 2022, and the competition starts on October 13, 2022. The first blog is due by October 28, 2022, and the second blog is due by December 13, 2022. Winners will be announced in December.
