Premier Farnell adds ‘Flick HAT’ plug-and-play 3D tracking and gesture-control for Raspberry Pi and I2C-enabled devices to its range of accessories

Premier Farnell, the Development Distributor, has added the latest 3D tracking and gesture-control Hardware on Top (HAT) to its range of Raspberry Pi accessories.

The Flick HAT allows engineers to expand the control options for Raspberry Pi and I2C-enabled projects by enabling users to control devices with a swipe, tap or flick of the wrist. By supporting 3D gesture detection at distances of up to 10cm, the Flick HAT doubles the range of alternative devices to provide a more flexible user experience.

The use of near-field technology means that Flick HAT can be used to control a PC, TV, music system or other device even when the project is concealed behind non-conductive materials such as wood or acrylic. The Flick HAT also supports communication over I2C. Implementation is simplified with fast, solder-free, plug-and-play installation whilst software libraries allow designers to explore the full functionality provided by 3D tracking and gesture sensing.

Steve Carr, Global Head of Marketing for Premier Farnell said: “This addition to our product range reinforces Farnell element14’s strengths in helping developers of IoT devices provide greater functionality than ever before. This includes enabling devices with control options that are usually only associated with high-end consumer products.”

The range of Flick HAT variants provides compatibility across the spectrum of Raspberry Pi boards: Flick HAT offers compatibility with Pi A+, B+, 2B and 3B; whilst Flick Large is compatible with Raspberry Pi, Arduino, BeagleBone® and Genuino as well as any I2C-enabled device. The Raspberry Pi Zero is supported by the Flick Zero.

The Flick HAT is available from Farnell element14 throughout Europe and CPC in the UK and element14 in APAC.
