New WPC medium power wireless charging development tools available

AVID technologies Inc., part of Premier Farnell, is a comprehensive service provider of advanced electronic product and system design services, has been at the forefront of wireless power design and product development for more than a decade. AVID is now offering a set of WPC v1.2 (Wireless Power Consortium) Medium Power Development Tools for product development and Qi pre-certification testing. These tools are used for Qi based application development as well as for Qi pre-compliance testing and production test applications.

Avid’s wireless charging test tools provide a convenient, lower cost alternative to official Qi Test tool provider, nok9. AVIDs work with the WPC and its constituents has given them the expertise to be leaders in the wireless power design and tool development space.

The tools include:

  • Qi Sniffer v1.2 - Captures the wireless communication packets and other system operating information. Users that have an earlier version of the sniffer can upgrade to the latest v1.2 standard with the purchase of a license.
  • Qi Receiver Simulator v1.2 - The Qi Receiver Simulator tests the transmitter's operation and performance
  • Qi Foreign object detection receiver v1.2 (FOD)- The Medium Power FOD Receiver is used to characterize and debug the wireless power transmitter functionality and foreign object detection (FOD) performance.
  • Qi Foreign objects kit upgrade– these are WPC defined metal objects that can be placed between Qi wireless transmitters and receivers and used to evaluate the FOD operation and performance. The upgrade kit adds additional components to support FOD tests introduced in v1.2.
