I seen this posted by VMWare on LinkedIn of all places and it is a beautiful example of mixing Art, AI and Robots and Human-Robot Collaboration to create an amazing Art display.  The interview with Artist and Researcher Sougwen Chung is part of VMWare's Radius - Stories at the Edge series which covers a wide range of topics.  Here they ask Sougwen 20 questions to get her input on how humans and robots can collaborate to create great works of art.   It's very inspiring.   h ...
I was at a recent local Robotics Event and someone there said she had seen the TI-RSLK that I had on display at last years Mini Maker Faire in Rocklin, CA and it apparently inspired her to purchase one to teach the kids she works with for STEM education.  She also mentioned that a local college, UC Davis, is using the TI-RSLK in their Robotics program.  After some searching for this, I found there is a STEM program sponsored by UC Davis geared towards under privileged kids that uses th ...
So, apparently the RoboGames Competition for 2019 which is usually held in the Bay Area in California was cancelled. https://www.reddit.com/r/battlebots/comments/9ogf6k/robogames_2019_canceled_confirmed_on_combat/   All is not lost though, the folks at Sierra College in Rocklin, CA, SacRobotics Club and Sierra College Robotics Club have put together a series of Robot Competitions to be held at Sierra College on May 4th, 2019. https:/

ROS Film Festival

Posted by jomoenginer Dec 22, 2018
There has been a long history of Animations and Robots in movies but to see movies made specifically featuring Robots is quite interesting. On top of that, there is even a Film Festival for such films which I was not aware of.   http://rosfilmfestival.com/en/   This particular one, NESL (short film) a winner from 2017, is very nice with only a music background track.   ...
This is a very cool story of how a young person with a dream created an awesome Robot which takes a bit of AR game play and Robotics to create a fun interactive experience that now has the attention of both Amazon and Apple.  Silas Adekunle, who was born in Nigera, took his interest in science and technology from a young age to learn about Robotics and now sits as the CEO of his own Robotics company at Reach Robotics in the UK.   Reach Robotics has created Spider bot called MekaMo ...
I had just found this out but Gordon McComb who has authored numerous books on building hobby robots passed away from a heart attack on September 10th.   I still have that original Robot Builder's Bonanza boot along with others I have collected over the years.  His books and writings provided great projects and techniques that an individual hobbyist could use to build home made robots.  He'll surely be missed.   https://makezine.com/2018/09/14/gordon-mccomb-father-of-ho ...
For those who enjoy getting updates regarding the Mars Rover Curiosity, now you can build you own and NASA and JPL have released the code to help you.  Under the "Open Source Rover (OSR)", NASA and JPL is giving back to the community by open sourcing the design data and software used with the Curiosity rover.  This is posted on GitHub under the open-source-rover title.   Man, I know what I'll be working on next. https://opensourcerover.jpl.nasa.gov/#!/signup   https://www. ...
Look! Up in the sky! It's a Bird! It's a Plane! No, it's Stuntronics? The cool folks at Disney Imagineering have come up with a Robotic Stunt Double to perform in their parks.  This was created based on their Stickman technology which no other than  Grant Imahara is part of;  well he is listed in the Stickman: Towards a Human Scale Acrobatic Robot abstract.  This is just too cool.   Disney Sickman Abstract https://www.disneyresearch.com/publication/stickman/   ...
