Below is the random writings throughout the project and well.......I decided this is a portion of the project book I created that has all my sketches and information in it.  For fun here it is more ramblings......   Entry #1 Sept 2nd.                The first thing I wanted to do in this design challenge was to get my thoughts in order. To start planning the adventure, to document as much as I could.  As I wo ...
It's been a long journey and I have plans for more to come when it comes to my build so the fun doesn't stop here.  I noticed when rendering my video a bunch of my video decided it would mess up so I have a few smaller shorter videos and information coming in regards to the project. I will say I was looking for a fun project for the winter months.  This certainly fit the bill on that one. I didn't realized how fun it was going to be,  I have learned a lot about pushing the limits ...
Like any project there is always alternatives that can be done.  I had thought a lot about this project prior to starting.  I was certainly trying to find out a way to make this project the most cost efficient and easy to build so basically anyone anywhere could reproduce it and be able to add on to it without any issues.  With most of our projects I am sure I am not the only one that is guilty of this and that is over thinking everything. When I started I had tons of ideas and th ...
So I decided I would add to the front panel it worked pretty good it's all sealed up on the inside and I just used some green tape to seal the front doors up.  So we should be good and sealed up now.  I will however shortly here have to get some more air circulation going on in the unit but that shouldn't take too long. Yup it's most certainly time to cut that glow down a bit. Yup that should do the trick.  I will be adding another panel to the side there and also get the ot ...
So now I have my watering system all setup its time to get to the planting so where do we begin.  I decided to use peat pucks for planting the seed as given anywhere nutrients and everything can be added to a system after the fact but getting the seeds started in a environment they are most likely to succeed was the thing I wanted to attend to first.  Mind you I wanted to be able to have the soil go to the top of my containers so I could have even holes on to when the plastic was over ...
When it comes to working the bugs out there is many things to think of first we have hardware related bugs things that won't work and then software issues where things wont work with what we have installed for hardware.  This can sometimes be challenging when using something like software that has been created by someone else where one could make a more simple setup work just as efficient but we have to consider time and resources and what is needed to be done to complete and get things goi ...
When it came to the software I was really wanting to try out some software I had seen which if I could do it over I would have done something differently but due to time and so much going on it wasn't in the books.  I had to make something work even tho it was a bit of a pain. So I decided to use TerrariumPi  currently it is only able to be run headless on the raspberry pi 4.   You can check out TerrariumPi over on GitHub here:  https://github.com/theyosh/TerrariumPI   ...
When I started with the electronics I scoured around my workshop to pull all the parts out of bins to see what I go, low and behold I had some items.  But not sure how or if they will work I decided to go ahead with the project of getting the electronics together.   I ordered some cheap parts as well and off to the races I went frantically trying to get things together.  Finding out things didn't work and purchased items were not labelled correctly on the listings causing som ...
Alright,  as time goes on I am finding I need to get planting sooner then later.  So let's get this enclosure all setup here so we can start running tubes and cables and get things running. When it comes to the enclosure I went simple, as simple as I could.  I used cardboard and well painted it then sealed up with vinyl and tuck tape. originally I was going to use corrugated plastic sheets. But after seeing the costs of it I decided against it as I would need quite a bit of it to ...
All design files can be found here for 3d printed parts. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4644039   So when I first started designing my project I had to think of what was available in space and what was available on earth and items we would have to each.  I knew that it would have to be put together with 3d printed connected blocks to make it easy for anyone to recreate and be able to adapt and adjust the project to their needs as every environment and situation may requir ...
Welcome everyone to the adventures aboard Valley Forge.   When resources are hard to come by we have to be inventive. Imaginative, and very creative in our designs and projects.  I would like to thank you all for taking the time to check out the works of Valley Forge within the next 9 blog posts we will embark on an adventure into creating a sustainable and micro sized growing pod.   When I was first tasked with this idea when it came about I decided I needed to learn.  ...
