I was really hoping that I would have cracked on with the jacket this week in the evenings after work. I even missed roller skating on Tuesday night and rushed back from ice skating on Wednesday, but unfortunately due to issues arising at work meant that I didn't have the time I really wanted to commit to getting it done, due to staying on late to try to resolve the issues. It's just been typical that this week has correlated to tricky faults both at work and home, now luckily work seems to be ...

Jacket Progress

Everything is now sewn on to the jacket:       I've carried out an LED test to check that I'm ok powering from  3.3V and it seems that everything is ok, so that's saved routing another power line down the length of my arm.     A quick overview of what's on the jacket and what it's for:   The FLORA:                          Main process ...
Can't believe how quickly time is going, work has been busy recently so I haven't had as much time to dedicate as I would have liked.   I got most of the jacket pieced together, but unfortunately I then went to get the zip. Recently we've moved house to a new town so I can't get to my normal haberdashery, so instead I went around all the places I could think of in Gloucester to get the zip for the main body of my jacket... after trying hobbycraft, who only sell general purpose zips (nothin ...

sewing!

Unfortunately due to a small but constant stream of visitors and other events which have come up, I've not got as far along as I'd have hoped, and this post has taken me a week to find time to post due to work, but I'm hoping to get on top of it again soon!   I've got a day off work booked on Thursday, so I'm planning to try to crack through most of the code, assuming everything goes to plan.   As I was doubtful about sewing the thin fabric I decided to buy an extra meter of the sam ...

Jacket ideas

Posted by hifromkatie Aug 23, 2013
Unfortunately I haven't found much time this week to do anything more on the electronics side of the project, hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get back on to it and get a nice chunk of it sorted as I've got nothing else planned.     I have however been thinking about the jacket I'm going to attach the kit too.   My first choice is to make the jacket myself, as I've been wanting to make another jacket since making a smart-casual cotton jacket last year, so here's my chance ...
Just a quick update on the current progress, which may help others in using the GPS module:   Firstly I started off with the Adafruit Flora GPS parsing example, and used this to become familiar with the GPS library.   I then based my code to start with around this to output current location and a hard coded destination to the Serial Monitor   My next step was to output "You've arrived" if the two matched and ":( Not home" if you haven't" This was very patchy, so I decided I nee ...
I got back from a week's holiday at my parents late Sunday night, which was a great time away although I also was really happy to get back to my own home especially as my Flora kit was here waiting for me!   Last night I finally had time to open the box, and i was really pleased with it, as others have already done an unboxing video I will save uploading another as the kits are the same. Here is a picture of what I found inside the kit:   Firstly I went to download the software, I ...
As shown on the "Get Closer" challenge page, I was lucky enough to be selected to bring my project idea into reality, which I'm exceedingly excited about.   The original (basic) project idea came to my mind when I first saw the new Adafruit Flora product, then when I saw the element14 competition I decided that I should have a try at entering it with my project idea but didn't have time to do it straight away. This proved to be a lucky coincidence as I went out for a skate that evening (In ...
