Oh yeah, it works! I hooked the suit up to PureData and after some tweaking it worked! I made some small tests just to try it out, and it's really a lot of fun, playing around with this! I am very eager to get to know the suit and tweak it so that it feels more natural to move with it and make some sweet sounds!   Ideally, if my kit would have arrived, this would have been hooked up to a BBB with a speaker and a battery, so that the suit would be standalone (currently I have it connected ...
I coded the Teensy to receive all the inputs (I decided to go for 6 inputs for this initial prototype), and gave them different control numbers. In the beginning I didn't really get what these control numbers meant, but I figured it out quickly as soon as I launched PD and I hooked it up to the patch.   There will still be some calibration left to do, as I still have to make some details to the base suit to make it more snug so it can adapt to the stretch sensors, but this is reall ...
Then it was the thing about hooking everything up! This was really more difficult than I had imagined, but it all worked out well eventually!   I spent some time soldering and tinkering to get everything to connect properly, after I had made the remaining stretch sensors. It was kind of scary soldering stuff so close to the fabric, but no mishaps and everything flowed smoothly! Then I connected everything to a protoboard onto which I had attached the Teensy, and now I had the circuit ...
Today at our local hackerspace I did some calibration of the stretch sensor prototype I had finished. I was assisted by some other people who hang around here, who helped me out a bit with ideas on how to adapt the code in the best possible way.   I adapted the teensy code through adding some mathematics, and used a different resistor to get the values I wanted. By using another resistor I could also work out the issue of how much power the Teensy can output, and thus I can add more str ...
There we go! I've finished up creating the base of the suit, onto which I will add stretch sensors and the electronics! It took some time to finish it up (a lot of stuff happened in my life as well these past few days), but now it's done!   The final design of the suit didn't quite turn out as I would have liked it, but I felt I had to let go of the perfectionist attitude due to the time constraint. I chose to go with an open back to create a more revealing look for it, while still keeping ...
When constructing the upper body of the suit, I got into a creative flow which gave me entirely new ideas on how to construct the suit. As I was tinkering with how to put the pieces together I just got a vision which really took the design to a new level!           Experimenting with putting together a full body suit   Before, I was planning on making a full body suit, but now I figured I could make a two piece suit which would suit my sty ...
I did some quick work with finishing up the Pure Data patch, although there might turn up some further modifications that need to be done to be completely done. As always things keep on evolving as you work with them!   I worked with adding volume meters to the sinus wave and sawtooth oscillators, to allow for changing up the sound using the suit. In the previous patch I had no such function so it was only a sin oscillator! I really think the extra sawtooth adds some more depth to the con ...
Hello again! Really getting my energy back after this cold now so I've been able to work a bit more recently! Feels good - especially since the deadline is rapidly approaching and I have quite a bit of work to do still!   Today I began creating the circuit which I have had in my head for some time. I will probably sew the things in place later on when I begin working with adding this onto the finished suit. This was just to get an overview of what the final circuit might look like when it ...
Hello again, everyone! Recently I was struck by a very harsh cold, and I have been unable to work on the project for the past weeks. Now I am slowly regaining my energy, though, so I have been able to pick up some work again after this long hiatus!   The past time I have been working with beginning to sew the suit which will be the first prototype of the music suit. First off I created a pattern for the lower part of it (since there was no pattern for a full body suit), using a book on pat ...
Hey again!   I've been getting into PureData a bit, since I will probably be running PureData either solo or in conjunction with SuperCollider to generate and manipulate the audio of the suit. I have very minor prior experience with PD; so this has been great fun getting into!   Since the suit will have 8 different stretch sensors, I want 8 different ways to manipulate the audio. I have been imagining the different manipulations that these sensors could alter, and I've come to the ...
Since I now have a working stretch sensor, I really have to get started with the suit! This is one of the most challenging things for me right now, as I am really a perfectionist when it comes to design.   As this is a conceptual art project, I want the fashion aspect of it to be conceptal as well. Thus, as the concept is a lot about reconnecting with Nature, I only want to use reused or scrap materials. When I was talking about this with some people in my home, my magnificent flatmate Kim ...
Hi there! I'm back again with a new update of my latest work. I was SoftLab yesterday, which I introduced to you in my previous update. It is a place for learning, collaboration and innovation in the fields of wearable technology and fashion (and whatever you can imagine!). So yesterday I really experienced the collaborative aspect of the space, as I was joined by the wonderful Subhash in my work this Wednesday. He has a lot of experience with electronics, and this helped me a lot! He was eager ...
Hello again!   I've been waiting to begin most of my work until my kit arrives, but as I am still waiting for it to arrive I realized I need to get some work done. Since our local SoftLab has opened up about a week ago, I began working at the same time as it opened up. In the video below you will be introduced to the working place and what potential it carries.     (For all fellow Flash refusers out there: https://goblinrefuge.com/mediagoblin/u/fraktalize/m/intro-to-softlab/& ...
Hey again! A LOT of things have happened in my life since the proect began (I randomly adopted a puppy, among other things), so I haven't had a lot of time to dedicate entirely to the project. Will most probably be able to dedicate more in a couple of weeks! First days   So, the first time while waiting for my kit has been spent with doing some research on which tools to use, and how to connect everything into the BBB. Since my local SoftLab is closed until January 20, I decided to fo ...
Hello everybody! First of all I would like to thank element14 for your support and belief in this project. I am very eager to get started!   Perhaps I should begin with an introduction. My name is Nadal, and I am a spiritual nomad with a deep love for nature and a hopeful view of technology. I am very passionate about electronic music and how we can utilize sound to elevate our consciousness, and reach new levels of connections with eachother and the world around us. I am also a strong beli ...
