Coding the Project

Posted by armour999 May 31, 2019
Well I had some delays with FHEM and EnoceanPi not working. I think the different landscapes with different operating systems and different versions of the Pi can make it a challenge. The Enocean Pi would not communicate with FHEM and no telegrams were being sent. I really wanted to use the Enocean sensors. The sensors require no batteries and are wireless I did look into using the PiFace Digital but the wiring was more complicated than I thought.   So I used a fresh micro SD card and ins ...

Big Entrance Part 1

Posted by armour999 May 22, 2019
I have FEM and Enocean Pi up and running. I installed the reed sensor above the door so when the door is opened a telegram will be sent to FHEM.    I have a small monitor to display the sketch. I am going to mount it above the counter using Velcro. This will prevent the monitor and Raspberry Pi from being pushed to the floor .     Below is a simple test of a processing sketch.     I will be testing a python script to-morrow to trigger the script from the ...
My original idea was to trigger a event if a door was open or closed. Depending on the event this would determine if a sketch would be played. So who should I impress with this idea ? Well Jim the cat is receiving a tent this weekend and I know she loves to follow the cursor on my laptop. As most cats she loves to lay on my keyboard and does not care if I cannot work. I talked to her about the design and this is her reaction. Not to worry Jim. I know she might enjoy Optical Illusions from pr ...

Trigger a Sketch

Posted by armour999 Apr 27, 2019
I finally came up with a different plan to trigger different processing sketches on the raspberry pi. I first installed the PitFT from Adafruit. The steps to install are:   cd ~ wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/adafruit/Raspberry-Pi-Installer-Scripts/master/adafruit-pitft.sh chmod +x adafruit-pitft.sh sudo ./adafruit-pitft.sh   You than have a chance to tell Pi how to display the screen. More information can be found here. Since I'm using VNC viewer which I installed on my ...

More Processing OpenCv

Posted by armour999 Apr 14, 2019
I  have explored many examples of Open CV in Processing. This video focus  is my daughter Katie who just graduated from the Alberta School of Design in web design. The Face Detection is a bit creepy and only captures the guy standing behind her .     Next Step is to install Adafruit PiTFT to view the Sketches. Also need to know how to increase RAM on the Raspberry Pi 3+ to speed up processing. ...
I started testing my own images and thought the results were cool. I'm next going to experiment with the camera and try Face Recognition (I will be using my daughter) , Object Tracking (probably the crows outside) and other examples.   Computer vision is a scientific field that allows computers to have a high level of  understanding from images or videos. The goal is to automate tasks that the human visual system can do.         ColorChannels Separate a color im ...
Installing:   I did a variation on the instructions to get the board working. I had to write a older version of the Operating system from 2016 to a SD card.  Using the current image , I could not find the PIFace  software to install from the current repository, You can download older versions from this link.   1. Enable SPI with the configuration tool.   2. Install PiFace Digital Software   sudo apt-get install python3-pifacedigital-emulator sudo reboot   ...
Processing is a open source graphical library.  Simply download the image that has processing installed. This includes examples and libraries. If you are new to Raspberry Pi you can Get Started using the Raspberry Pi foundation guides.     Once you have written the image to the SD card you can start the image in the Raspberry Pi and you can start Processing from the Programming Menu. The Web site includes a nice snippet on setting up processing:     The sky's the l ...

The Unboxing

Posted by armour999 Mar 20, 2019
Thanks Element 14 for selecting my design as a competitor. I received the package on Monday and was thrilled.   I have thrown around some ideas for PiFace Digital 2 and will include some extra components from my workbench.   So at this point (warning : this may change ) my plan is to use the PiFace digital 2 and Enocean Pi to trigger the Pi Processing script to run with a event . The event may be a door is opened , a button is pushed and the magic is displayed on a HDMI monitor o ...

Pi Power Image

Posted by armour999 Feb 24, 2019
Wow this is beautiful and is a design by Dana Zelig. She is using a software package called Processing but does not indicate what hardware she is using. There is no copy write notice. So this is exciting because the website  Processing for Pi provides all the tools to set this up on the Raspberry Pi B+ and Raspberry Camera. The website is here.   There is a image to download that includes the Processing  and libraries to quickly get you started. There are Tutorials to he ...
