Update:   I have been working on this almost all day. I want to create the globe to look like a baseball. Trying to figure out an easy way to program all the lights to do what I want. I decided to try using Excel and transfering the cell value to Python. Today I have an update of the POV globe. I spent some more time trying to program the lights to produce random colours. This was very successful as you will see with the photos below. Hello everyone!!   The globe is complete and runs great. It looks really cool seeing the project done and working better then I ever thought. Programming the LED strip in  python was not as hard as I thought. I did the programming on my laptop then transfered it to the Rasperry Pi. Since the Raspberry Pi is spinning it is impossible to hook a monitor to it so I solved that by using remote desktop. This way I can transfer files and change programs while the globe is spinning. Hello everyone   With the challenge coming to an end in just over a week it is time to post my 9th blog. I have spent the last week setting up the Raspberry Pi, electrical, testing power transfer through the bearings and creating a backup just in case it fails. I got the LED's up and running with the Raspberry Pi attached in place. The project is complete except for the final programming of my display. For the 7th update (Part 1 of 2) I have come up with a motor that should work. I bought an old sewing machine and removed the motor. I took apart the foot control and mounted it to my project so now it is hand controled. Below are pictures and a short video of how it works. Blog 5 update is the drive system for the globe to spin. I am using a pully system with a rotary tool as the motor. After lots of testing over the past week I found that the motor can't handle the tension and started to burn up. This is a little setback, but it did work so I just need to use a different motor. Welcome to my 4th Blog of the POV Globe. The subject of this update isn't what I has planned on, it was to be about hooking up the motor and get the globe turning. Unfortunately the motor I have isn't powerful enough to get up to the speed I require. I will have to source out a stronger and faster motor for my next blog. Hi everyone,   This weeks update is a bit more then I figured. I got quite a bit completed on the building of the globe. As you will see I created the base for the globe, top part to support the north end of the globe and have the LED's attached. I am trying to see if I can make it more 3D by giving it depth with a second row of LED's on the inside of the globe. This way I can produce 2 pictures at 2 different depths at the same time.
