Hey guys, Hope everything is good....at last completed Mr.Funeka..Although I couldn't record the full features(I was in a hurry because of my lousy neighbor, also had to clean the place by morning(housekeeping and shifting), but the happy news is its working. In the beginning when I was selected as a Challenger, it was mentioned I'm upcycling a plastic Skull   Well the Idea was to reuse few components from a pile e-waste around me and turn them into something Fun and useful.  Her ...
Hey fellas...   Here comes this week's update, something I wanted to do for a long time, but the Upcycle Challenge made me to do it ...   I wanted to re-purpose the Omron D6T, I2C MEMS IR sensor to track movement and direction. The one I'm using here is Omron D6T-8L, with 8 pixels.   How its works:   The sensor has a resolution of 1x8, what I've done is read all the 8 pixel values and find the largest of it and the  corresponding pixel and map the value to a Servo. & ...
Hello guys.   This weeks writeup is using the PocketSphinx to recognize voice commands.   The complete documentation can be found here -> CMUSphinx Wiki.   Esther Kim Jun has written a great Documentation on Installation and Application Procedures in her Github repository.   So what I've done is, I've used the PocketSphinx to call out the gmail.py and the weather.py scripts done in the previous part.   The Setup. Its simple, just plugged in the Microphone into th ...

Hey Guys,   Thought I would make the eye ball part for this week, but found out the Thermal sensor to be broken, have ordered a new one wondering how long its gonna take for delivery. While walking around I found this monitor over the trash, I took it home.   After reading about it, I had a second thought of using this fellow. Its back light is CCFL which is supposed to have some mercury and the panel was broken, while the one salvaged from the Dell  was LED and also intact ( ...
Hi guys,   So planned out things... So started with the Amp and the Speakers.   The Amplifier board is based on PAM8403, which says its a Class D Amplifier with a 3W + 3W Output. The speakers were from Radioshack, Each 4Ω.   Started to solder out.   A bit of soldering, Low pass filters and some testing....   Things were smooth till I smelled it, Yep the Amp-IC was about to burn, the output terminals were short. Hopefully I had a spare Board (Still I have ...
Hi guys,   Say hello to funeka, the skull.   After salvaging the parts and before ruining the skull i took a close look of the skull and started to clearly plan out things. The jaw were attached using a set of springs.   those were really hard springs, the motor or the stepper couldn't have enough torque to pull it.   So I decided to replace the spring with a piece of elastic so the motor could pull.   Further placing a motor on the top is not possible, again t ...

Hello Guys, after reading about the Upcycle it Design Challenge, I looked around I just found myself sitting in middle of a  junk yard ( so much od electronics stuffed around) . I looked around and found a few things and found they can be salvaged and re-purposed.   I just planned to make a talking skull, that would recognize  voice commands and reply Unread Gmail count, Temperature, Humidity etc. Sounds like the usual stuff?
