This is only a tiny selection of the Arduino compatible boards around - there are also lots which are software compatible but with different physical layouts and countless boards which are not software compatible but offer the same expansion connections.

Farnell sell lots of them too, like ST's Nucleos for example.

Yep, I use the Elegoo UNO R3 card for prototyping and Elegoo Nano for final work, those are really cheap.

At the size and price of a Nano, I don't spend time to make a basic set myself on a PCB.
