china rohs 2 电子电气产品污染控制管理办法

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (also known as MIIT /工业和信息化部) has released a revised version of the China RoHS 2 proposal (电子电气产品污染控制管理办法).

The revised proposal aims to do the following:

  • Clarify the definition of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) to align with the definitions given in the EU RoHS Directive
  • Clarify the definition of ‘hazardous substances’
  • Give MIIT stronger powers to effectively implement the directive
  • Develop a ‘product compliance assessment system’ for EEE jointly between the MIIT and the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China.

The China RoHS 2 proposal is under consultation until the 10th July 2012.

Whilst this step forward is certainly encouraging, let’s not forget that a draft of the original China RoHS was released back in 2009 but was abandoned.

Please keep checking back for further updates as we get them.
