Slow progress on SVHCs

Early in 2010 the EC (European Commission) announced, boldly, that a further 106 Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) should be added to the Candidate List of SVHCs for authorisation by the end of 2012. Currently there are 46 SVHCs with a further 8 expected to be added to the Candidate List shortly. Deca-BDE - a refresher

I was asked about Deca-BDE by a US company. Deca-BDE was given an exemption but the EC used the wrong procedure so the ECJ (courts) deleted the exemption from 1st July 2008 and no stakeholder has since requested a new exemption for it. Deca-BDE is therefore now banned by RoHS in equipment in scope so it should not be present although this is no guarantee. Previously, Deca-BDE was widely used.
