Early in 2010 the EC (European Commission) announced, boldly, that a further
106 Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) should be added to the Candidate List of
SVHCs for authorisation by the end of 2012.
Currently there are 46 SVHCs with a further 8 expected to be added to the Candidate List
Clearly things are not moving at the desired pace and 2010 was not a productive year, mainly
due to the destraction of the first REACH registration deadline.
It will now need a big effort from Member States and Competent Authorities to achieve the
target, even get close to it.
