The UK market surveillance authority NMO (The National Measurement Office) has been renamed the National Measurement and Regulation Office (NMRO) and is responsible for the enforcement of batteries, RoHS, timber and eco-design legislation amongst others.

With a target of a hundred staff the remit the NMRO has grown steadily in recent years. Further responsibilities have also been transferred to NMRO including, among others, WEEE legislation-distributor responsibilities and distributor responsibilities and producer obligations for industrial and automotive batteries under the Waste Batteries and Accumulator Regulations 2009

The NMRO has also published its first high level corporate plan which suggests little change to its existing collaborative approach to working with industry to improve compliance.
