The Farnell online stores are looking for your feedback.   They’re keen to speak with people who use our online stores to guide them on how to improve their website experience.   As always, your feedback is valued and we need you to help shape the future of Farnell’s digital services.   As a thank you, you would be given an amount of money or possibly a voucher when you complete a research session.   By joining the Research panel you’d be part of ...
Earn Certificates from Our Workshops / Webinars   From the request of our members we're trialling something new (for us). Often we're asked "hey, can I get a certificate for attending the webinar?" and we were like "that's a thing?" well, now it definitely is a thing.   We're starting with the Summer of FPGA workshops focused on the Avnet Ultra96-V2 board, and when you attend each one, and answer the quiz questions contained there in, you'll gain an element14 Community certificate to ...
Whether you're celebrating having time to yourself, or with family, unwrapping presents or enjoying a tall receptacle of your beverage of choice, from us at the element14 Community, here's hoping you all have a very happy holiday and a great new year!   It's been a very odd year this year, last year I came down very ill, so I was mostly working from home, and this year I've been ... mostly working from home because everyone else's getting ill! I grew up in the age of the Soundblaster soundcard, the reputable brand by Creative which lead the charge in MS-DOS supported audio. In my eyes the fabled Soundblaster Awe 32 with soundfonts was the creme de la creme of soundcards, with its own RAM for the benefit of playing the most deluxe of MIDI sound files for your games and audiophile excitement, back in the day of the ISA standard for add-on boards for your computer system, a standard that lasted for a long while until PCI came along. ...
I haven't thrown it away. I still have the Playstation 4, if you remember the last time we looked at How not to repair a Playstation 4 - The Risks of Second Hand Electronics , my intention was to look again at the vias and pathways on the board and see if I could resolder the connections from the HDMI port to where they were supposed to go.   However, unlike many of you who are very capable at soldering (according to What (metric) size have you managed to hand-solder ? ) I am... not, well ...
(or singles awareness day)   Everyone has a love in their life, their partner, pet, a television show, and for others it is their favourite electronics project that takes pride of place in their application or showcase.   Though for most of us, we do not always love our electronics, in fact, they can be the bane of our existence. Whether it's the work virtual private networking not functioning, computer memory deciding to fail, or our mobile phone not having signal.   For me re ...
Whether you're sat around the television, games console, board game, card game, a beverage, on your mobile phone, laptop, tablet or your main meal of the day, I hope you're having a good time on this day this year!   What has ol' Saint Nic' brought you for the holidays? Or perhaps a family member, or frankly, perhaps you've decided to buy something for yourself?   Personally I took advantage of the Cyber Monday sales, traded in some old electronics hardware, and bought myself an upgr ...

I have enough game consoles in the house, they're not all current generation. I have a Wii, Wii-U, XBox 360, Nintendo (3)DS, GBA, Gameboy, SteamLink to my gaming PC, and access to a Playstation 3. A friend of mine offered me a copy of Destiny since I've been playing Destiny 2 on the PC and I haven't finished the first.   The problem? It's a console exclusive, so I thought to myself "What if I managed to get a Playstation 4? I can play Destiny 1 free online with it and... maybe if it's a bi ...
Hanhaa want you to put their hardware through a real-world use case - for free!  I've written before about Symbisa Brings Physical IoT Sensing and Tracking to the Office , Symbisa being the hardware at the heart of the ParceLive system by Hanhaa. Since then it has been used by a number of different companies, including John Lewis to benefit their transport of goods, products and services.   Though it's not only small parcels that have been transported with ParceLive, automobiles have ...
Happy Lunar New Year!  This year ushers in the Year of the Pig for 2019!   Now this is a year I can relate to, being born in the Year of the Pig myself, this year welcomes the types of pigs that like to keep their feet to the ground being the Earth type!   It Pays to be a Pig Regardless of which element of Pig you're born as, you're probably suited to being an Engineer. Being a Water pig myself, I'm allegedly "responsible, serious and full of ideas, listen and communicate well" ...
