Good Electric Strikes are not cheap. Yes, you can buy one for 30 - 50 dollars but in the end, you might not like it. Remember here is definitely: You Get What You Paid For It. So think twice before you drop your bucks on some cheap imported crap!   A Von Duprin is a heavy duty strike with a 24-volt  AC or DC coil. The cool part about this strike that it has Dual switch monitoring option has two SPDT contacts, one switch monitors the tripper which is depressed when the latch bolt is i ...
I have done some more work today on the current amplifier and found that I did not have the input turned up to a high enough voltage to obtain the full 1A output, so I have now repeated the test and monitored the heat output from the amplifier.   This is still just within the nominal operating temperature specified for the op-amp, but it was still climbing slowly when turned off. When switched back down to a 0.5A output, the temperature does start to drop away quite rapidly.   With ...
Introduction When making electromagnets, it is difficult to know for sure what kind of magnetic flux density has been achieved. This is because it depends a lot on practical construction factors, where on the electromagnet it is measured, and the core material permittivity. There are commercial measurement devices, known as gaussmeters, but the good ones usually cost upward of $150. Furthermore, those $150 units are basic – they have a response up to 300Hz (for changing magnetic fields) an ...
I haven't had much chance to work on the clamp table this week so it isn't quite complete, the majority of the time has been spend building and testing the current amplifier after the PCB had arrived.   For the clamp table,  I have cut some wooden legs for it and fitted them but they will need painting before final assembly. I have cut and profiled a base board for the table to sit on, this received a final coat of paint today, that is currently drying.  Five rubber feet will fin ...

I even built a device using instrumentation amplifier, 2nd order band pass filter and ARM mcu to do all the math (FFT) S ...

Back to The Project14 homepage Project14 Home Monthly Themes Monthly Theme Poll   After all the painting and finishing off the One String Electric Guitar has been finished. I re-installed the pickup and wired it directly into the headphones amplifier  as this enabled me to create an untethered system that I could then plug directly into the main music amplifier that I have. It wo ...

Back to The Project14 homepage Project14 Home Monthly Themes Monthly Theme Poll   Once the final guitar body had been shaped it was time to paint it. I decided to follow a painting strategy of undercoat then top coat of spray paint. The undercoat was just a wood primer and undercoat combined, which I sanded down after the first coat and then undercoated it again and sanded it again to ...

I have been planning to build an outdoor digital thermometer for a long time that uses a temperature sensor and ...

Back to The Project14 homepage Project14 Home Monthly Themes Monthly Theme Poll   IntroductionFor my entry in the electromagnetism contest, I decided to look at building some current clamp table adapters. The intention of these was to allow me to test the full-scale range of current clamps utilising my single phase injection test set. I also intended to look at trying to test the frequ ...
