You might recall my issues with power when it came to powering a motion sensor with a Wemos, from the xmas challenge: Connected Christmas Trees   So I've created a little splitter for the power-in part to make it easy to grab the power straight from the input, bypassing any onboard wemos circuitry.   I used a micro usb tip, and a micro usb input module, soldered the power and gnd from one part to the other part, and hot glued it together into this:   The pieces are on the lef ...

Back to The Project14 homepage Project14 Home Monthly Themes Monthly Theme Poll   I was having trouble finding suitable enclosures for the electronic bits of my Connected Xmas Trees project. I have lots of Altoids tins, but being metal they would not be ideal, likely blocking the WiFi signal of the Wemos c ...

Back to The Project14 homepage Project14 Home Monthly Themes Monthly Theme Poll   I spent a fair bit of time today trying to figure out what was going on with the motion sensor on Tree 1.   I tried a few things, starting with switching the Wemos itself, and it turns out that when I use the Wemos from ...
I'm getting closer!   I added some pull-down resistors for the motion sensors, and made a few tweaks to the software (there was too much of a wait time between sensor reads, for one; and I had the motion sensing levels backwards).   Tree number 2 seems to be working properly, detecting motion at the right time, sending and receiving messages, and lighting up all the right things. Hooray!   I thought I had it in the bag, because Tree 1 is just a copy really, with the numbers rev ...

Back to The Project14 homepage Project14 Home Monthly Themes Monthly Theme Poll   As you may recall from a previous blog post about my Connected XMas Trees, I was having some trouble getting the motion sensor to behave properly.   So a few days ago I soldered some headers onto a new Wemos board to tes ...

Back to The Project14 homepage Project14 Home Monthly Themes Monthly Theme Poll   I made some headway today, and was able to wire up one of the XMas trees to one of the Wemos boards.   Initial testing went well - it looks like the lights are properly controlled the way I had intended (hooray!). Back to The Project14 homepage Project14 Home Monthly Themes Monthly Theme Poll   Assembly of the trees has begun.
