The Öko-Institut and Fraunhofer IZM will be working with the European Commission on a technical review of the requests for exemption from substance restrictions of the RoHS2. The consultation period will run until the 20th March 2012 (started 24th January) and covers the 18 exemption requests that have not been eliminated, evaluating them against the exemptions criteria in Article 5 (1) (a).
The role of the Öko-Institut and Fraunhofer IZM will be to collect and evaluate the information submitted by stakeholders and provide recommendations to the EC on the justifications for each exemption, specifically looking at their socio-economic and cost benefits.
Results of the technical review will be used to make final decisions when handed over to other European Union organisations.
