For anyone already following the Raspberry Pi foundations work from a developers viewpoint will be very happy to hear that they have released a new Compute Module.
Based on the same chip as Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ Broadcom BCM2837B0, a 64-bit quad core processor running at 1.4GHz.
For the uninitiated, the compute module range has all the brains and power of the Raspberry Pi but in a form factor that is optimized for being embedded into a design, for example the standard external USB, power and ethernet have been removed and broken out into the fin edge connector. The Compute Module 3+ is priced lower than the average Pi and has a wider operating temperature range.
In addition to the super fast processor the new Compute Model 3+ comes in three different onboard memory variants; 8GB, 16GB & 32GB, to suits every kind of industrial embedded design applications.
But, what if you don't want onboard memory and your prototype has an SD card slot or other type of boot memory else where on its PCB?!?!... then we have you covered with the Compute Module 3+ Lite

A Lite version of the Compute Module 3+ is also available.
The CM3L brings the SD card interface to the Module pins so a user can wire this up to an eMMC or SD card of their choice.

The Compute Module 3+ simplifies the design process engineers need to undertake when developing a System on Module (SoM) solution into their final product. Engineers do not need to concern themselves with the complexities of interfacing with the BCM2837B0 processor directly and instead can concentrate on designing the interfaces to their own IO board and their application software. This simplicity fosters rapid development.

- 1Gbyte LPDDR2 SDRAM
- Memory Options: 8 Gbytes, 16 Gbytes, 32 Gbytes eMMC Flash or None.
- Multimedia: H.264, MPEG-4 decode (1080p30), H.264 encode (1080p30), OpenGL ES 1.1, 2.0 graphics
- SD card support: The CM3+ Lite brings the SD card interface to the module pins so a user can connect this to either an eMMC or SD card.
- Environment: Operating temperature, -20° to +70°C
