The element14 ESSENTIALS of Medical Sensors covers sensors used in medical instruments, including their characteristics, design considerations, and applications. To extend the knowledge covered in the main module, this supplementary guide discusses the types of related components or development boards used for prototyping or product development.
The SEK001 is a sensor evaluation kit that provides an easy way to evaluate Honeywell's TruStability RSC series and the digital output versions (I2C or SPI) of the HSC series and SSC series board mount pressure sensors. The kit interfaces a selected sensor to an Arduino™ Uno Rev3 microcontroller board. Sensor measurements are displayed on the user's PC and can be recorded to a .csv file for further analysis. In addition to being mounted directly on the SEK001, the sensor may also be remotely connected to the SEK001 via wire leads, allowing the sensor to be tested in adverse environments or in a prototype product for proof of concept testing. The SEK001 has sockets to receive TruStability HSC, SSC series pressure sensors with I2C or SPI digital output as well as the new TruStability RSC Series high resolution pressure sensors.
The SEK002 is a sensor evaluation kit which provides an easy way to evaluate ABP series (digital versions only) and MPR series board mounted pressure sensors. It also evaluates Honeywell HumidIcon™ digital humidity/temperature sensors: HIH6100 Series, HIH6000 Series, HIH7000 Series, HIH8000 Series, HIH9000 Series and HPM series particle sensors. The SEK002 has sockets and solder pads to receive the sensors. The board is then plugged in as a shield board to the user-provided Arduino Uno Rev3 board.
The kit interfaces a selected sensor to an Arduino™ Uno Rev3 Microcontroller Board. Honeywell software, which is provided free and is downloadable at http://sensing.honeywell.com/sensors/evaluation-kit, controls the Arduino Uno Rev3 to take readings from the sensor. Sensor measurements are displayed on the user's PC and can be recorded to a .csv file for further analysis. Sensors may be mounted directly on the SEK002 or remotely connected to the SEK002 via wire leads, allowing the sensor to be tested in adverse environments, or in a prototype product for proof of concept testing.
The is a 2-pin Discrete Thermistor. It eliminates the need for individual resistance temperature calibration, as well as standardization of circuit components and simplification of design and replacement problems.
HIH8120-021-001 - Temperature and Humidity Sensor, HumidIcon™ Series, Digital, 0% to 100% RH, 2 %, SIP, Filter
The HIH8120-021-001 is a Digital Humidity/Temperature Sensor. It contains a digital output-type relative humidity (RH) and temperature sensors combined in the same package. It provides an accuracy level of ±2.0%RH. It has long-term stability and true temperature-compensated digital I2C or SPI output.
The SS351AT Sensor IC is a small and versatile digital Hall-effect device that's operated by the magnetic field from a permanent magnet or an electromagnet. It is designed to respond to either a North pole or a South pole. It has a typical operating point of 85 G at 25 °C [77 °F]. Because it can be operated by a North pole or a South pole, it does not require the magnet polarity to be identified, thus making the installation easier and potentially reducing the system cost. It is a sensitive and flexible device designed to meet a wide range of potential applications.
A Honeywell Zephyr™ HAF Series sensor provides a digital interface for reading airflow over specified full-scale flow and compensated temperature ranges. The thermally isolated heater and temperature sensing elements help these sensors provide a fast response to air or gas flow. Zephyr sensors are designed to measure mass flow of air and other non-corrosive gases. Standard flow ranges are available at ±50, ±100, ±200, ±400 or ±750 SCCM. Custom flow ranges are also available. The sensors are fully calibrated and temperature compensated with an onboard Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC). The HAF Series is compensated over the temperature range of 0 °C to 50 °C [32 °F to 122 °F] and operates across a temperature range of -20 °C to 70 °C [-4 °F to 158 °F]. The state-of-the-art ASIC-based compensation provides digital (I2C) outputs with a response time of 1 ms.
The RSC Series is a piezoresistive silicon pressure sensor offering a digital output for reading pressure over the specified full scale pressure span and temperature range. It is a calibrated and temperature compensated for sensor offset, sensitivity, temperature effects, and non-linearity using a 24-bit analog-to-digital converter with integrated EEPROM. Pressure data may be acquired at rates between 20 and 2000 samples per second over an SPI interface. It is intended for use with non-corrosive, non-ionic gases, such as air and other dry gases, designed and manufactured according to ISO 9001 standards, and is REACH and RoHS compliant.
The is a Low Profile Force Sensor, designed to provide precise and reliable force sensing performance in a compact commercial-grade package. The sensor incorporates Honeywell sensing technology that uses a specialized piezoresistive micromachined silicon sensing element. The low power, unamplified, uncompensated Wheatstone bridge circuit design provides inherently stable millivolt output over the force range. Direct mechanical coupling of the actuation ball to the sense element reduces coupling errors and keeps mechanical hysteresis to a minimum.
