The TI Launchpad (MSP-EXP430G2) works with 3.3V power supply voltage. You will find this voltage at card edge connectors marked as Vcc.  There are situations, however, in which you need +5V. For example the "industrial standard" LCD modules require +5V supply voltage.

The easiest way to obtain +5V from the Launchpad demo board is the usage of the USB connector which delivers +5V supply from the computer. Fortunately, near to the USB connector there is a solderable hole (called TP1) directly connected to the +5V supply line, so it is very easy to solder a pin header into it. Do not drow a current larger tha 0.5A from that pin, otherwise the USB bus of the computer may be damaged!
