Completed work on road testing the Tektronix AFG31052 Signal ARB/Function Generator   First, I would like to express my thank you to Tektronix and Element14  for selecting me to roadtest the AFG31052 Arbitrary Function Signal Generator.  I feel fortunate and honored to be one of the three people selected for this roadtest and I would also like to thank Element14 for organizing this roadtest.  This is an on-going blog that over the following weeks will show my step-by-step pr ...
GPIO GPIO pins are 'general purpose input/output pins', configurable as both input and outputs where needed. These pins form the most common interface to hook up your own hardware. According to the hardware description, the maaxboard has no less than 5 x 32 = 160 GPIO pins. This is also visible to the linux system, when you look at the /sys/class/gpio directory: # ls -lia /sys/class/gpio/ totaal 0 1946 drwxr-xr-x  2 root root    0 apr 20 16:53 .   10 drwxr-xr-x 64 r ...
Interfaces After playing around with the image a little, it was time to connect the maaxboard to the outside world. The first things I wanted to try was to use the i2c interface, since that was my preferred bus to hook up my sensors. I2C is a bus which allows multiple devices to share the same bus, each with its own address. Looking around the hardware I found that its 4 i2c buses were spread out: Bus 1 is on the camera connector Bus 2 is on the GPIO pin header: SDA is pin 3, SCL is pin 5 B ...
After the initial setup and installation, I have put some more time into testing of the software, covering the following topics: Linux Desktop I finally found the setting in my archaic HDMI monitor to turn off the 'overscan' feature, so I now have a workable area on my screen. The system boots in the wayland/weston desktop, which looks very nice, and seems to be working smoothly. The commands in the menu are for setting Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and some basic things like gedit and a terminal. The la ...

The Maaxboard

Posted by pmansvelder Apr 11, 2020
I have received the Maaxboard this week, and I can finally start testing. I was afraid shipping would be affected by the Corona measures, but it came by UPS, and there was no hassle at all.   The Unboxing The maaxboard came in a plain brown cardboard box, with all the specified items neatly packaged: the Maaxboard a 5V/3A power supply with several adapters for the different plugs, including (luckily) the Dutch one a 16GB micro-SD card (Neat!) a long and sturdy HMDI cable (even neate ...
