I am already done with the main part of the roadtest, at least what I was able to do, this is a series of blog posts to complement the RoadTest and to work the features of the Feather, the MAX32630FTHR.   This blog post is to test the BMI160 onboard the device.   TRIAL: BMI160.   I don't know who wrote the Mbed library. The printf function cannot print out integers and floats. Have yet to try with longs and doubles, but I'm assuming not.   Initially, the sample code provided ...

I received the Phoneix Skedd Connector Kit in a neat white box shown here and was really excited to test this out. I admit that this review comes quite late and I am really sorry for that. My university is putting too much pressure on us students in this online semester. Daily quizzes and assignments are killing the hobbyist inside me. Enough of the ranting. Let`s get to the review. The connectors are essentially through hole wire to board connectors in various pin counts that can be push-fi ...
Nature of the problem Recently, while upgrading my solar garden shed PV installation a problem popped up with DC loads connected to the new Renogy MPPT charge controller.  The original system had a single 10W 120 VAC LED light fixture in the center of the shed .I added two more fixtures at either end of the shed and switched the wiring over to 12 VDC supply.  All three lights are wired in parallel and controlled by a standard light switch.  The Renogy MPPT controller can supply u ...
The Pico Oscilloscope RoadTest Review is currently in a holding pattern due to a shipping error. I figured I would fill the wait time by sharing the methodology or my approach for the RoadTest. I value the input from members. On past RoadTest their commentary has improved my review by providing knowledge I didn't have, thereby enabling me to correct details I stated in error.   My application offered to review the equipment while analyzing servo motor operation. Recently, I discovered a tu ...
(NB All this is based on personal recollections and dates must not be relied upon too much.  It’s all opinion and my experiences  - if you need facts then check them !)   By now you may have realised that a little mix-up has resulted in the testers for this Road test being sent the wrong scope. Replacements are on the way so normal service will be resumed soon but having primed oneself for starting a road test it’s hard to back down. https://www.element14.com/communi ...

This is a first posting in a blog series supporting a RoadTest Review of PicoScope 6424E Oscilloscope.   While waiting for a replacement oscilloscope (PicoScope 6424E Oscilloscope + Accessories: The Application ) to substitute for the unit shipped in error, I figured I would unboxed the Pico Probe Positioning System and establish an oscilloscope testing platform using a Pi.   Part of the reasoning for creating this blog post was to satiate my desire to get on with the RoadTest. Knowi ...
This blog post covers my experiences using the MSOX3034T to measure low power radiated RF signals.  The challenge this time is to have the Keysight 'scope help me learn about RF signals broadcast by a simple handheld RF remote control.  In this case, a remote control for a consumer ceiling fan.  I have previously studied this remote using a Tektronix MDO4104-3 with a built in spectrum analyzer.  So, though I know a fair bit about the RF signal generated by this remote, I'm us ...
Well I'm going to call it official, that I am one of three candidates for this RoadTest. I'm assuming if you accept the offer and the equipment shows up at your door then it is official, even though there hasn't been any announcement on the RoadTest Review posting. RS will no doubt get to that later.   The equipment arrived but just after an email indicating the scope shipped is not the correct model. The Pico 6403E was delivered, confirmed. I am now dealing with the logistics of getting th ...
This bog post continues my exploration of the MSOX3034T in the realm of slow speed digital signal analysis. In the previous blog post I used I2C decode capabilities in the MSOX3034T to examine transfers of data between a PIC microcontroller and a Real Time Clock (RTC) device in a data logger.  In this post I task the MSOX3034T with a challenge to acquire and decode a sequence of three slow speed digital signals each with three different protocols and three different data rates.  Basica ...
In this post I relate my experiences using the Keysight MSOX3034T and a Tektronix MDO4000 series instrument to decode I2C data packets.  The use case I explore in this post posed some measurement challenges, mostly due to fairly lengthy delays between packet transmissions, but the MSOX3034T rose to meet the challenge and delivered the measurements I needed to take.  I will highlight some interesting user interface differences between the Keysight and Tektronix approach to slow speed bu ...
I've been pondering how to utilize the features of the Power Defense Circuit breaker. Here's a link to the Eaton site for this breaker https://www.eaton.com/us/en-us/skuPage.PDG23F0060P2MJ.html The first challenge was to figure out all the loose wires coming out of the sides of the breaker. There was no wiring instructions provided with the unit. I figured out a few of the lines from online data sheets:   Eaton Power Defense molded case circuit breaker, Globally Rated, Frame 2, Th ...
