This is the second blog post of my RoadTest review of the Ettus USRP B205mini-i Software Defined Radio platform: Digilent 1x1 USB Software-Defined Radio Platform   You can find the 1st blog post here: Ettus USRP B205mini-i RoadTest | Getting Started 1. Inspecting WiFi Channels 2. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Scanner 3. Random 433 MHz Remote 4. Full-Duplex Transmit and Receive   After successfully getting started with the Ettus USRP B205mini-i, I started looking into som ...
After completing the power testing and while waiting for some USB-C adapter changers to facilitate some further testing, let's follow-up on LG comment in Insight into lan78xx driver support for Pi  about interface throughput.   Since I don't have a network analyzer to checks throughput, I did an internet search and came up with a software tool https://iperf.fr/  to make some measurements. From their website, iPerf3 is a tool for active measurements of the maximum achievable bandw ...
The circuit diagram is the equipment setup used to perform the power measurement readings on the Pi4B. The Microchip PoE to USB-C provides replaces the traditional wall wart Pi power supply. To test the power performance of the Microchip PoE, the Pi4B will be subjected to an increasing load thereby demanding more power from the source. The voltage output on pin 1 & 2 (5v & 3V) will be monitored with a volt meter to record any changes.   Two load tests will be used. One is a ...
A credit thank you to GL lui_gough for providing the configuration details required to get the lower circuit working.   The vendor alluded to the requirement for a lan7800 driver. When the interface didn't work initially, I thought  the driver wasn't supported in the Raspberry Pi Operating System (O/S). Microchip PoE to USB-C® Power and Data Adapter RoadTest Review Data   After much testing, I became convinced a missing driver wasn't the issue and the interface ...
I am unable to establish a data path from a Raspberry Pi via the Microchip PoE USB-C adapter.   Failure to establish some data connection is a disappointment but not a surprise. Data via the USB-C on the Pi was an unknown entering into this RoadTest. This post will provide the setup and configuration details that were used in the testing. The plan for the review process is to make another post seeking E14 Community assistance in finding a solution. As was mentioned in the introduction, the ...
Will the Microchip PoE power a Raspberry Pi 4B?   The initial test involved establishing a host hardware and software configuration that works with traditional wall wart power. Then using the same host power it from the Microchip PoE.   As explained in the introduction to this RoadTest, only Raspberry Pi hardware will be used as host devices.  The initial test used a Pi4B (my apologies I may have used Pi4B+ identifier in earlier posts) hardware that was provided as part of the R ...
Roadtesting the Rohde & Schwarz NGU401 SMU   This is the first post in a series that will cover my experience while roadtesting the Rohde & Schwarz NGU401 Source Measuring Unit (SMU) instrument.  First, I would like to thank Rohde & Schwarz and Element14 for selecting me as one of the road testers for this instrument.  I am exited and I look forward to exploring the capabilities and performance of the NGU401 SMU.  I will start first with an overview of SMUs to br ...
I recall a forum post discussing unboxing content being included in a RoadTest Review. Some members supported the idea others not so much. I like including some unboxing content for a review were it provides value.     I omitted photos of opening the shipping container and displaying all the packaging material. Not much value there. What I removed from the manufactures box I positioned under a desk lap for the photo op. I was all out of limelight to display the star performer so I h ...
I received noticed from UPS that there is a package on route to me. I will assume it is the equipment for this RoadTest. I have no other items I am waiting to receive. I didn't click the link to confirm. I'm hoping it not just a UPS related phishing attempt. Oh well, let's post some theory for this RoadTest in the mean time.   What is Power over Ethernet (PoE) as it relates to this device. With the Microchip PoE, a USB-C powered device can get power over the same cable that carries ...
I just received a request to confirm if I will accept Element 14's offer to complete the Microchip PoE to USB-C® Power and Data Adapter RoadTest review. I guess that makes it official. While I wait for product shipping I figured I would attempt to generate some interest with a blog post.   For my application, I leveraged the understanding that I have RoadTested a PoE device in the past Raspberry Pi4B (4GB) plus POE Hat - Review  . I thought the knowledge gained through that RoadT ...
I have the opportunity to test and review the new Tektronix TBS1102C. The TBS1000C series is latest Tektronix addition to the entry level oscilloscope market, with the TBS1102C offered as the 100MHz model. A review is on it's way in the next week or two, however I wanted to share some of my excitement through an introduction video and unboxing pictures.   Update: My review is complete check it out here! I have been running the TBS1102C through it's paces, which is proving that this is ...
I was recently (April 2021) selected to road test the Silicon Labs BGM220 Explorer Kit.   This blog is about one of my discoveries I made when testing out the BGM220 Explorer Kit.   Contents: Introduction Getting started with NCP Mode Building a custom NCP host tool (using Processing) Getting to grips with the BGAPI command set Decoding Scan Response packets Processing 3.x Demo Code   Introduction  As with many new products you start with assumpt ...
This is the first blog post of my RoadTest review of the Ettus USRP B205mini-i Software Defined Radio platform: Digilent 1x1 USB Software-Defined Radio Platform 1. Introduction 2. The Ettus USRP B205mini-i 3. A First Application: FM Radio Receiver 1. Introduction As a engineer and hobbyist I was always interested in Wireless Communication. In my projects I experimented with technologies like WiFi, BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), GSM/3G/4G, GPS, LoRa, LoraWAN, SigFox and others.   ...
